Albion Design were instructed to provide two spiral staircases within Rochester Cathedral.
Following site meetings and a comprehensive site survey the stairs where designed on Albion Designs 3d modelling software. Due to the very restricted access, and its grade 1 listed status, the stairs had to be supplied in sections to be lifted in a service hoist to the outside of the building then manually moved across the fragile roof and down in to one of the towers.
The stairs were then assembled in position to provide the only access down into the building, across a mezzanine floor and then down to the lower areas within one of the towers.
The installation proved the flexibility of Albion’s modular construction to design and install a spiral staircase into the most restricted and sensitive areas, safely, efficiently and to the customers ultimate satisfaction.
